As dwellers of Salihorsk say, a deputy chairman of Salihorsk district executive committee on ideology work Kazakevich was noticed at the ceremony.

"Common people with modest wreaths and bouquets came," Raisa Mikhajlouskaya said to the Charter'97 press-centre. "They said that the Belarusian regime is to blame for the death of Yana. Yana Palyakova's mother is crushed with grief. She was sitting near the coffin crying".

"Yana was a fighter," Valery Shchukin said during the funerals. "As a lonely warrior, she rushed to save her nation".

A co-chairman of the Belarusian Christian Democracy party Vital Rymasheuski stressed that Belarusian democrats should do their best to find out who had caused Yana to commit suicide, and detect thise guilty.

Many attending the funeral of Yana Palyakova asked forgiveness for not having supported her in the black moment.

As we have informed, a Salihorsk-based human rights activist Yana Palyakova, who had been convicted by Salihorsk court, committed suicide on March 7.

She was an activist of the NGO "Legal aid to the population", cooperated with other human rights organisations, and was a member of an initiative group of Alyaksandr Kazulin's daughter, Volha, when she ran in the "presidential election" in 2008.

On March 3, judge Burautsau of Salihorsk court found her guilty of violating article 400, part 2 of the Criminal Code – "deliberate false accusation". Yana Palyakova was sentenced to 2.5 years of restraint of liberty (so-called "chemistry") and ordered to compensate for "moral damage" to police officer Puhachou, who had retired recently.

Yana Palyakova accused that policeman of beating her. Last November she informed that she had been detained by police for her oppositional activities several times. It was also reported that the woman was beaten in a police department and on one occasion her hand was about to be broken.
